Did you know that men are seventy percent more likely to speak up than women? I didn't. And even when a woman does speak up, she is most likely going to be interrupted by her male counterpart. And that is not because he is rude, but because the statistics show that the female voice is more difficult for males to register. Seems odd. However, whoever came up with those statistics definitely didn't take the fashion industry into consideration. Male bloggers are few and far between. But having said that, don't we all need a platform to shout from? Because, realistically, none of us like to sit in silence when we have something to say.
This is well and truly the age of personality. It doesn't matter if you are a celebrity, brand or even a blogger. If you want to stand out, above all this digital noise, there needs to be a singular voice or personality. Social media is like skimming stones - sometimes those tweets and snaps sink without a trace and other times they just keep on bouncing on.
Everybody is competing with each other for that same slice of people's time and attention all the while wanting to build on their marketing net by gaining more followers and likes. It is bloggers though that have risen up to become the editors of the internet and help brands out by skimming that stone. I always find that some people don't really take bloggers very seriously. And I find that weird because bloggers are driven by passion. These guys are the opinion former's, the influence's.
Personally, I have put my heart and soul into blogging and I love every second of it. But don't get me wrong, it isn't a walk in the park. There is literally nowhere to hide. I will be the first to admit that I have annoyed people and I know others may dislike what I do, but I never started blogging for them and nor would I stop for them. When you decide to start a blog you decide to put yourself out there, the full 360 degrees. You are completely exposed. This is not like a magazine, there s no sub editing and correction to make you look good.
There is so much information on the internet, but too few people actually know how to use it. I'm not saying I'm an expert but you need to be at least able to focus on the individuals that you want to hear from. You need something relevant to say. You need something different or more informative than somebody else. If you have something to say, there is no point in letting fear keep you quite. You have a voice. Be heard. Just find your voice. You ain't in school anymore. Fill the damn silence.
